The BBC have announced details of a Doctor Who competition for Blue Peter.
Viewers aged 6 to 15 will be given the task of designing a sonic device for either Jenny, Vastra or Strax.
The winning designs will be featured in Series 8, Peter Capaldi’s debut series in 2014.
Three eligible age categories will form the contest - 6 to 8 years, 9 to 11 years and 12 to 15 years.
The panel of judges deciding on the winning entries will be Blue Peter editor Ewan Vinnicombe, Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat, Doctor Who producer Nikki Wilson, Doctor Who’s brand account manager Edward Russell, CBBC presenter Chris Johnson, Blue Peter series producer Ellen Evans and Doctor Who production designer Michael Pickwoad.
The competition is due to launch on the Doctor Who: Blue Peter Special on Thursday, 21st November on the CBBC Channel.
Neve McIntosh has confirmed that her character, Madame Vastra will return to Doctor Who in 2014.
In an interview with Flicks and the City, McIntosh said: “It will be sad not to be working with Matt again but I’m really looking forward to Peter taking over and seeing what he does with it. We’ll be helping the Doctor more, but I can’t say anything else.”
McIntosh is also keen for Vastra, Jenny and Strax to have their own spin-off show, exploring some more adult ideas, stating: “The sexual themes in Doctor Who should be talked about more and embraced more. It could be edgier and more dangerous.”
“We can do so much in Victorian times, it’s got that steampunk edge to it. Think how freaky that era was with the Elephant Man and all that and just add us into the mix, with time travel and all sorts of weird, wonderful stuff.”
Doctor Who Series 8, starring Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald will begin filming in November 2013.
