The Radio Times has provided a few small hints about Peter Capaldi’s Doctor’s costume.
They cite a “BBC source” for the following information.
The decision over the costume was ultimately made by a combination of Peter Capaldi himself, executive producer Brian Minchin, showrunner Steven Moffat and senior members of the art team and had to be approved by senior BBC executives.
Capaldi’s costume mixes old and new – is a “bit old fashioned to denote the fact that he is the oldest Doctor” but is also “looking to the future as well” says the well-placed sourced.
Peter Capaldi will make his debut appearance in the Doctor Who Christmas Special, The Time of the Doctor, Christmas Day at 7:30pm on BBC One.
NASA has confirmed the discovery of a real-universe analogue of Gallifrey, the home planet of the Time Lords in Doctor Who.
According to a recent article, NASA came across what it calls a “transiting circumbinary multi-planet system” – in layman’s speak, “two worlds orbiting two suns” – using its Kepler planet-hunting telescope, and the Register likens to “Doctor Who’s Time Lord homeworld, Gallifrey.”
The new system, which has been named Kepler 47, has two stars circling each other every 7.5 days. One of them is similar in size to our sun, whereas the other is approximately one third its size.
Doctor Who fans have started a petition to rename the newly discovered planet, named “HD 106906 b” to Gallifrey in honour of the show.
As Christmas and The Time of the Doctor approach, we reach that point of the month when the Adventure Calendar presents a selection of Doctor Who themed cards which you can print out and send to your friends or collect for yourself.
Peter Capaldi: “I’m 1,995 years too young” to play the Doctor.
Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat have said that the actor who plays the Doctor can never be old enough for the role.
In an interview with the Press Association, Moffat said: “The Doctor’s thousands of years old, they’ve never been able to find an actor old enough to play him!”
Capaldi concurred: “I’m 1,995 years too young for the part, really. So I think he’s going to be quite happy to look his age at last!”
When Capaldi was asked who is favourite Doctor is, he replied: “All of them, I love them all, they’re brilliant. They are just one, they’re all of those actors and they’re all a delight, I think they’re all fabulous. I’m lucky to have them in my DNA because I’ve watched it from the year dot, so they’re great.”
Speaking about his debut scene in The Time of the Doctor, Capaldi said: “I haven’t seen it, so I’m looking forward to my reaction. My family are all coming over to watch Matt Smith turning into me which will be interesting.”
The Time of the Doctor will air on Christmas Day at 7:30pm on BBC One.
